Idol

What is an idol in K-pop?

A K-pop star

K-pop fans often refer to their favorite performers as idols. A K-pop idol may be a solo performer or a member of one of the genre's many, many boy and girl groups. Idols tend to dress and act similarly, as they are a product of the hyper-manufactured system Korean record companies have created to produce K-pop stars.

Despite their many superficial similarities, different K-pop idols tend to attract different followings. Most enfranchised K-pop fans have a certain idol or idols they stan for, and many follow and post about their favorite idols on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and other social media sites.
