A pick me girl is a female who is so desperate for the attention or approval of a male that she puts down other females to stand out. The toxic behavior may even be misogynistic to appear more attractive.
The "pick me girl" term gained traction in 2020 on TikTok as females called out females' unhealthy attempts at impressing men. The term comes from a line in Grey's Anatomy that appeared in season 2, episode 5. In the 2005 episode, Meredith Grey pleads to Derek Shepherd, "Pick me, choose me, love me."
On TikTok, users would post videos of examples of pick me girls, often with Grey's famous line. Examples of pick me girl behavior include women putting down other women for choosing a career over being a SAHM or a gf babying her man by cooking for and cleaning up after him.
