University of Illinois students and alumni use MI to stand for "Marching Illini." The Marching Illini is the University of Illinois's marching band, which is typically comprised of around 375 current students.
Nearly as famous as the Fighting Illini, which are University of Illinois's sports teams, the Marching Illini performs primarily at U of I home football games. The MI has also performed at Soldier Field, Dublin's St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
