PCTTO is a quick way to credit the original owner of a picture shared online, whether it be in a forum or social site. For example, a person may post a photograph of Taylor Swift with "PCTTO" on Facebook to indicate they do not own the picture.
People started prominently using PCTTO on social media in the early 2020s as a more specific variation of CTTO when sharing an image, such as a photograph or meme. It is similar to the HT acronym Tweeple often use to give credit to others in their tweets.
While people typically mean well when they use it, the acronym is not an effective option for giving credit to the original creator if they don't include the creator's name, username, etc. Instead, the poster will likely still get all of the credit. A better option is to include the creator's name, ideally with a link to their profile page or website, ensuring the original creator receives proper acknowledgment.
