Toon
Alternate character
In online gaming, a "toon" is an alternate character a player creates and uses in addition to their primary character (often called the main). Toons (also known as alt) allow players to explore different classes, roles, or abilities within a game without altering their main character.
For example, a player might create a toon to experience gameplay as a healer or tank, while their main character might be a damage dealer. Other ways gamers user toons include trying out new strategies, participating in different in-game events, or simply enjoying a change of pace from their main character's style of play.
Origin of toon
The origins of the gaming term "toon" are unclear. Some claim it comes from "Toontown Online," 2003 MMORPG featuring characters known as "toons." Others claim it comes from WoW as a reference to cartoonish-looking characters in the online game.
