Poker lovers use WSOP as shorthand for the World Series of Poker. This collection of high-level poker tournaments is held annually in Paradise, Nevada, where it draws over 100,000 players per year.
The WSOP started in 1970, with a seven-player invite-only tournament held at Binion's Horseshoe. Now, the WSOP consists of over 101 tournaments that anyone can buy into, provided they have the money. A cool $10,000 will buy you entry to the WSOP's Main Event, a multi-day no-limit Texas Hold 'em (NLHE) game. If you win, you'll (unofficially) be crowned that year's Poker World Champion.
