Due diligence
When you're discussing stocks or other investments, DD stands for "due diligence." Financial advisors, finance forum posters, and investment-related websites often tell investors to perform their own DD before buying in to any company.
What, exactly, DD involves is up for debate (see the Reddit example pictured below). However, doing your due diligence on a company and its stock typically includes:
- Investigating the company's balance sheet, cash flow, and management
- Comparing the company with its competitors
- Assessing the company's strengths and weaknesses
- Considering industry and worldwide trends that may affect the company
- Examining the company's short- and long-term growth
Only after you've completed all these tasks (and potentially, a few others) have you performed your due diligence.

Daddy Dearest
Friday Night Funkin' (FNF) players use the acronym DD to reference the game's primary antagonist, Daddy Dearest. Daddy Dearest is the first foe players face in FNF, and he reappears in cutscenes and levels throughout the game.
What is FNF?
FNF is a rhythm game in which players play as Boyfriend, a rapper who must engage in multiple rap battles to continue dating his Girlfriend. Daddy Dearest is Girlfriend's father; his primary objective is to stop Boyfriend from dating his daughter.
When does DD appear in FNF?
Daddy Dearest first appears during FNF Week 1, in which he battles Boyfriend in an auditorium. He also appears in Week 5 alongside Mommy Mearest, after the pair take a mall Santa hostage and steal his chair.

Dear daughter
Some parents use "DD" to lovingly refer to their daughter online or when messaging. For example, a dad may comment, "My DD arrived from France today!"
Most parents that do use DD when referring to their daughter use it on social media sites and online parenting forums. For example, a mother may post in a forum, "Does anyone know of a sickness going around? My DD has the worst cough she can't seem to get rid of."
Parents may also use DS to refer to their sons. For example, a mother may post on Facebook, "My DS built me a birdhouse at school. Isn't it beautiful?"

A "DD" is a "designated driver," which is a person who must stay sober to provide a safe drive home for their companions (usually from a bar or nightclub). The DD is typically the most responsible person in the group of friends, but the group may also choose them randomly or take turns with their friends.
People often use DD in messages, whether online or in texts. For example, your friend may text you and others in a group thread asking, "Who wants to be the DD for our trip downtown tomorrow?"
Origin of DD
It is unclear who coined the "DD" acronym, but it gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Also, it comes from a PSA initiative in the 1980s meant to reduce the number of car crashes caused by intoxicated drivers by encouraging people to designate a sober driver for the group.
